Description:
At Duqm in Oman, WABAG has completed a seawater desalination plant on the basis of reverse osmosis technology for the Rural Areas Electricity Company S.A.O.C. including seawater intake and outlet system and pre-treatment using microfiltration. The plant provides both drinking water for the local population and a small amount of utility water for a power station. This is the first plant in Oman to use microfiltration units for pre-treatment.
Main process steps:
- Open seawater intake system: 1.3 km away from the shore of the sea including intake works and pumping station
- Pre-treatment: Filtration, Microfiltration
- Desalination: 2-stage Reverse Osmosis: Seawater RO: 3 trains à 2,280 m3/d RO units, Brackish water RO: 3 x 960 m3/d RO units with Energy Recovery system
- Post-treatment: Neutralisation, post-treatment for pH adjustment and disinfection of potable water.
