The contract has a value of EUR 61 million.
In January 2012, WABAG signed the contract for the major order with the National Water Supply & Drainage Board of
Sri Lanka. As the general contractor, WABAG Ltd. will be responsible for the turnkey realisation of the entire project
including the civil works and the technical support of operations following commissioning for a period of three months.
The order consists of a water treatment plant with a capacity of 30,000 m3/d employing proven technologies to produce
clean drinking water from the water of the Dambulla Oya River. It also includes an intake system for up to 65,000 m3/d
river water. After treatment, the drinking water will be led to a ductile, iron pipe transmission system with a length of
75km and an UPVC pipe distribution system covering 228km.
Plant start-up is scheduled for August 2014.
