VA TECH WABAG Ltd. was entrusted with the construction of 100 MLD Desalination Plant by Chennai Metrowater, and has successfully completed the launch of Intake System Pipe Line today.
This is an important and major milestone which was started on 13th April with night and day operation and completed successfully on 16th April 2012. This remarkable feat was achieved inspite of the Tsunami warning and earthquake sounded on 12th April 2012.
This marine launching and sinking of a very large dia pipe line (1600 MM Dia HDPE) was done for a length of 1050 meters with a depth of 14.1 m. sea side and 5.5 m. shore side.
The 1600 MM Dia HDPE pipe was towed in adverse sea condition and finally aligned using Digital Global Positioning System (DGPS) and sunk in position on to the trench dredged for the purpose using a state-of-the-art Cutter Sunction Dredger. Tug boats of suitable Bulletin Pressure (capacity) and many other support vessels besides other marine and on shore equipments were pressed into service to achieve this monumental challenge.
