Highly flexible ETP for the Otopeni factory near Bucharest, Romania.
Philip Morris International expanded its Otopeni factory near Bucharest in 2018/19, adding a new production line that increased both production capacity and wastewater demands. To address the higher volume and stricter pollution controls, WABAG was commissioned to design and install an advanced wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) tailored to the facility’s needs. The multi-stage WWTP, with a capacity of 1,600 m³/day (split equally between process and utility water), utilizes cutting-edge technology, including WABAG’s FLUOPUR® process, to ensure treated water meets stringent standards for discharge or reuse. The plant was commissioned in 2019.
- Scope: Design & engineering, equipment supply, installation, commissioning and start-up. O&M since 2019.
- Technologies: The ETP comprises following main components resp. process steps:
-
- Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF)
- Cooling system
- Biological treatment by moving bed process – FLUOPUR® (IFAS)
- Sludge treatment
- Dual Media Filter
- Activated Carbon (GAC) Filtration
- Odor control system
- Impact: The FLUOPUR® technology ensures a stable process and offers high flexibility to manage fluctuations in wastewater loads and volumes, thereby contributing to improved water quality in the region.
