The water reclamation plant for the Coal Gasification Plant achieves ZLD, minimizing environmental impact.
WABAG has established a sustainable water reclamation system for the Angul Jindal Steel and Power Coal Gasification Plant, capable of processing 8,400 m³/day. This system recycles water from coal gasification (secondary effluent) and cooling tower blowdown for reuse as cooling tower makeup water.
An advanced multi-barrier process including Ultrafiltration and Reverse Osmosis was installed. Additionally, the RO concentrate is recycled as dust suppression water in the ash mound, achieving zero liquid discharge (ZLD).
Scope: EPC
Technologies:
- Pre-treatment:
- Coagulation/Flocculation,
- High Rate Clarification,
- Dual Media Filtration
- Advanced Membrane Filtration System:
- Ferric Dosing & Fine Sieving in Basket Strainers
- Ultrafiltration
- Reverse Osmosis (3 units)
- RO permeate tank (lead to cooling water make-up)
- RO reject tank (lead to ash handling area for dust suppression – ZLD)
- Pre-treatment:
Impact: WABAG’s sustainable water reclamation system at the Angul Jindal Steel and Power Coal Gasification Plant not only reduces freshwater consumption by recycling treated wastewater for cooling purposes but also achieves zero liquid discharge (ZLD), minimizing environmental impact and promoting resource efficiency.
