Water Reuse: Cooling water for Steel Works
WABAG was awarded the contract for the construction of an industrial wastewater treatment plant for USS Serbia, d.o.o., in Smederevo, Serbia, by SIGMA DIZ spol. s.r.o. The project involved the treatment of water in the ZPO cooling circuit, with the primary goal of enabling the reuse of recycled water within the steelworks. To meet the stringent requirements, WABAG implemented a system comprising two piping flocculators, one flotation unit, and five two-chamber sand filters.
Project Highlights:
- Scope:
Design, engineering and supply of a new industrial wastewater treatment plant for sustainable reuse of treated effluents as cooling water. - Treatment Process:
- Flotation
- Piping flocculators (max. flow rate: 2 × 1,000 m³/h)
- Flotation unit (max. flow rate: 1 × 2,000 m³/h)
- Filter installation
- Two-chamber sand filters (max. flow rate: 5 × 400 m³/h)
- Chemical system
- Electrical, measurement, and control systems
- Impact:
The plant significantly reduces freshwater consumption and contributes to more sustainable and efficient steel production operations.
