Enhancing Water Security & Economic Prosperity
Desalination plays a pivotal role in fortifying water security and resilience, especially in arid regions prone to drought, where saline or brackish water sources are abundant. Beyond safeguarding water resources, desalination fuels economic growth by providing a dependable water supply for various industries, fostering job creation, and driving innovation.
The Process:
Desalination plants are instrumental in dividing saline water into two distinct streams: one with low salt concentration (condensate in thermal processes or permeate in reverse osmosis) and the other with high salt concentration (brine or concentrate). This process requires energy, usually supplied through thermal or mechanical means. Preferred technologies for desalinating sea and brackish water include membrane technology like Reverse Osmosis (RO) and thermal methods such as Multi-Effect Distillation (MED).
Enhanced Performance:
What sets us apart is our ability to offer both RO desalination technologies and thermal desalination processes (MED and MSF), making us a leading provider of comprehensive desalination solutions for high-capacity plants.
Complete Plants with Pre- and Post-Treatment:
As a holistic systems supplier, we deliver not only the necessary inflow and outflow structures, including sub-sea pipelines, but also prioritize efficient pre-treatment processes. The success of a desalination plant hinges on its pre-treatment system. Our solutions surpass conventional filtration technologies, addressing specific concerns like red tide, oil in seawater, and high total suspended solids. We employ advanced techniques like Dissolved Air Floatation (DAF), lamella clarifiers, and highly effective micro and ultrafiltration systems to ensure superior pre-treated water quality, enhancing overall productivity, reliability, and availability of the RO treatment process.
Innovative Layouts and Energy Efficiency:
Our innovative layouts, including compact Inline systems, optimize space utilization with a smaller footprint while reducing specific power consumption in the RO system. We provide energy-efficient two-pass Reverse Osmosis (RO) systems equipped with the latest energy recovery devices, minimizing energy consumption and producing high-quality permeate for various industrial applications.
To meet potable water standards, we incorporate post-treatment remineralization systems using methods like lime and COâ‚‚.
Trusted Partner in Desalination Technology
WABAG has earned a strong reputation as a trusted partner in desalination technology, offering comprehensive solutions for many years. Our extensive expertise enables us to maximize energy efficiency, optimizing energy consumption in the desalination process and reducing lifetime water costs.
In Chennai, the 110 MLD SWRO Desalination Plant in Nemmeli, initiated by the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board, provides crucial potable water to over a million residents. Commissioned in 2013, it was expanded and upgraded in 2017 to meet rising demand and mitigate Total Suspended Solids (TSS) levels. WABAG ensures efficient operation and low power consumption. In Oman, the Al Ghubrah SWRO plant delivers 191,000 m3/day of utility water to Muscat, combating water stress with advanced pre-treatment methods and a compact two-pass RO system since 2016. Additionally, in Mangalore, India, WABAG’s 40,000 m3/d SWRO plant for MRPL ensures continuous refinery operations while minimizing freshwater dependency, boasting comprehensive pre-treatment and a 2-stage RO system for water security and operational continuity.
