State-of-the-Art Turnkey WWTP and Water Reclamation Plant for Saudi Arabia’s major Industrial City, Saving 43.8 million Liters of Fresh Water per Year.
WABAG successfully completed a major EPC contract as the General Contractor, awarded by MARAFIQ, for the expansion of the Sewage Water Treatment Plant in Jubail. This project aims to purify municipal wastewater from Jubail town and its industrial city (MARAFIQ SWTP 9, Stage 6 Phase–1). The plant employs a three stage treatment process, ensuring that the treated water meets irrigation water quality standards as per Royal Commission Environmental Regulations 2015, allowing it to be reused for urban landscaping and irrigation purposes.
Project Feature:
- Scope: The project involved expanding the plant’s capacity to 120 MLD under Phase 1, with future plans to further expand up to 200 MLD in two phases. The EPC contract included design, engineering, and construction.
- Treatment Process: The plant utilizes an advanced activated sludge process for efficient carbon and nitrogen removal, along with wastewater filtration and disinfection as a tertiary treatment step. The treated effluent meets high-quality standards for irrigation use, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. The project also includes sludge treatment, TSE handling, odor treatment, and a SCADA system for fully automated plant operation.
- Impact: The successful completion of this expansion supports Saudi Vision 2030 by enhancing sewage treatment infrastructure, promoting sustainable water management, and contributing to environmental protection in the region.
