Sustainable water reuse for a greener, resilient Algiers.
WABAG developed the Beni Messous Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) near Algiers, significantly enhancing wastewater management for a population of 250,000. The facility integrates proven mechanical and biological treatment processes, ensuring effective purification. To further improve sustainability, the plant was expanded with a second treatment line and a shared tertiary treatment system, including filtration and disinfection with a capacity of 5,500 m 3 /h. This enables the safe reuse of treated wastewater for urban irrigation, supporting green spaces and reducing reliance on freshwater resources. By promoting water conservation and environmental protection, the project enhances the region’s resilience to water scarcity while improving public health and urban sustainability.
