Integrated Effluent Treatment Plant and SWRO Desalination
WABAG has developed two critical water infrastructure assets for SAUDI ARAMCO in Jazan Economic City—an Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) and a Seawater Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) desalination plant. Together, these strategic facilities ensure reliable industrial water supply and sustainable wastewater management supporting the region’s industrial growth.
Advanced Effluent Treatment PlantÂ
The 40 MLD Effluent Treatment Plant employs a multistage industrial treatment process covering pre-treatment, primary clarification, oxidation ditch, dual media filtration, chlorination, and sludge digestion on this Effluent Treatment Plant. The Effluent Treatment Plant enables the reuse of 32 MLD of industrial wastewater and 8 MLD of municipal wastewater to support resource recovery and circularity.
High-Capacity SWRO Delivering Continuous Industrial-Grade Water Supply
The 60 MLD Seawater Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) desalination plant facility treats seawater from the Red Sea to generate high-quality potable water for industrial consumption. The Seawater Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) desalination plant integrates dissolved air flotation and ultrafiltration for pretreatment, followed by two-stage RO with remineralization and CO₂ stabilization to ensure reliable and energy-efficient desalination performance for ARAMCO’s operations.

High-Performance Treatment Process for Effluent Treatment Plant and SWRO
- Effluent Treatment Plant process: Fine screening, grit removal, oil & grease removal, oxidation ditch, dual media filtration, chlorination, sludge thickening and aerobic digestion.
- The Effluent Treatment Plant ensures effective removal of contaminants through fine screening, grit removal, oil & grease removal, oxidation ditch, dual media filtration, chlorination, sludge thickening and aerobic digestion.
- The Effluent Treatment Plant plays a critical role in achieving regulatory compliance and environmental protection by integrating fine screening, grit removal, oil & grease removal, oxidation ditch, dual media filtration, chlorination, sludge thickening and aerobic digestion.
- Seawater Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) desalination plant process: Seawater intake system, dissolved air flotation (DAF), ultrafiltration, 2-stage RO system, and post-treatment comprising remineralization and COâ‚‚ dosing, while the Effluent Treatment Plant supports sustainable wastewater management within the overall water infrastructure.
Impact — Reliable Water Supply and Industrial Sustainability for Jazan Economic City
The Effluent Treatment Plant project treats 40 MLD of wastewater, with 10,000 m³/day reused for irrigation, while simultaneously producing 60 MLD of desalinated water to ensure a dependable industrial water supply for Jazan Economic City. By significantly reducing reliance on freshwater sources, the facilities contribute to long-term resource security and operational resilience. The initiative strongly supports Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 by reinforcing sustainable industrial growth and enabling efficient water management across one of the country’s most strategic economic hubs.
