For Pure Water, Think WABAG!

Koyambedu TTRO, Chennai, India

Tertiary Treatment plant recycles municipal used water for reuse as industrial water.

WABAG in partnership with IDE Technologies has set up a tertiary treatment plant at Koyambedu, Chennai. The contract includes a 68 km pipeline to the industrial hub in South Chennai which comprises one of India’s 4 major auto clusters.

Secondary treated water from the Koyambedu municipal wastewater treatment plant is used as raw water for the reuse plant. A multi-stage treatment scheme involving high-end technologies with Ultrafiltration and Reverse Osmosis to achieve and guarantee high quality water equivalent to drinking water standards was employed. The project is based on DBO scheme: EPC along with 15-years operation and maintenance.

  • Scope: DBO: Design, engineering, equipment supply , installation and commissioning as well as O&M for 15 years.
  • Technologies:
    • Dual Media Filtration
    • Ultrafiltration
    • Reverse Osmosis
    • Ozonation
  • Water Reuse: industrial water for industrial hub.
  • Impact: The new tertiary treatment plant in Chennai supplies nearby industries with treated municipal water. A daily flow of 45,000 m3 of reclaimed water makes a major contribution to support industrial water security leading to economic prosperity. This effectively reduces the need for industries to use fresh water, thus saving over 13,000 million litres of fresh water annually.

Features:

  • Pre-disinfection and Pre-oxidation using Chlorine dioxide dosing
  • Advanced pre-treatment with dual media rapid gravity filter
  • Waste water polishing using state-of-the-art Ultrafiltration(UF) system
  • 3 stage Reverse Osmosis(RO) system to achieve an excellent overall recovery of 80%
  • First reuse plant in the country to integrate Ozonation technology for disinfection
  • Technological excellence saves over 1600 crore litres of fresh water every year
