📅 September 20, 2025

19th September 2025 – In a landmark step toward transforming urban sanitation, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Shri Yogi Adityanath, officially flagged off the Robotic Sewer Cleaning System in Ghaziabad under the One City One Operator (OCOO) initiative, executed by VA TECH WABAG LIMITED (WABAG). This marks a significant milestone in advancing safer, smarter, and more sustainable sewer management practices in the city.

The ceremonial launch was held in the presence of key dignitaries including Smt. Sunita Dayal Aggarwal, Mayor of Ghaziabad; Shri Vikramaditya Singh Malik, Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Ghaziabad; Shri Avanindra Kumar, Assistant Commissioner; and Shri Anuj Tripathy, Project Manager – OCOO Ghaziabad, VA TECH WABAG. Their presence underscored the importance of adopting future-ready technologies to safeguard both public health and worker safety.

The introduction of robotic and automated systems into sewer cleaning marks the beginning of a new era in city-level sanitation. This initiative eliminates the need for manual entry into hazardous sewer lines, significantly enhancing safety for sanitation workers. Additionally, it improves operational efficiency, ensures regulatory compliance, and contributes to the city’s long-term environmental goals.

Under the One City One Operator model, WABAG is responsible for managing the complete lifecycle of Ghaziabad’s water and wastewater infrastructure. The deployment of robotic cleaning systems is a reflection of WABAG’s broader vision to deliver technology-led, citizen-centric, and environmentally responsible solutions to urban local bodies. By integrating cutting-edge innovations into essential public services, the initiative promises cleaner sewers, better working conditions for sanitation staff, and improved reliability for citizens.

With this launch, Ghaziabad becomes one of the few Indian cities to embrace robotic sanitation solutions as part of its core infrastructure strategy.

“This development not only strengthens the city’s public health and sanitation framework but also sets a replicable model for other municipalities across India to follow.”
