June 5, 2025 – In a landmark step towards restoring the health of the River Ganga, the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, virtually inaugurated two major Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) in Patna — Digha (100 MLD) and Kankarbagh (50 MLD) — as part of the Namami Gange Mission, implemented by the Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (BUIDCO) and executed by VA TECH WABAG LIMITED under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM).

An on-site inauguration ceremony was held at the Digha STP and was graced by the presence of several esteemed dignitaries:

🔹 Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad, Member of Parliament – Patna Sahib

🔹 Dr. Sanjeev Chaurasia, MLA – Digha

🔹 Ms. Sita Sahu, Mayor of Patna

🔹 Shri Prabhat Kumar Chaudhary, Chief General Manager – BUIDCO

🔹 Shri Suresh Kumar Mehta, General Manager – Namami Gange Project

🔹 Senior officials from the Government of India, Government of Bihar, Namami Gange, BUIDCO, and WABAG

With a combined treatment capacity of 150 million litres per day (MLD), the two STPs are designed to significantly reduce the flow of untreated sewage into the Ganga, thereby playing a vital role in the river’s rejuvenation. Furthermore, both plants incorporate state-of-the-art energy recovery systems, capable of generating up to 4.5 MW of green electricity daily, setting new benchmarks in sustainable wastewater management for the region.

This inauguration reinforces WABAG’s enduring commitment to the Namami Gange vision of an Aviral (continuous) and Nirmal (clean) Ganga, through technological excellence and sustainable infrastructure solutions.
