Rehabilitation and Upgradation of 204 MLD wastewater treatment plant. Preparing the country for the FIFA World cup 2022.
WABAG was awarded by the Qatar Public works Authority (ASHGAL) the EPC contract to rehabilitate the 204,000 m3/d Doha South wastewater treatment plant through the installation of lamella clarifiers, disc filters, and aerobic digester technology. This modernization will also enable the plant to treat the additional sewage generated by the football stadium for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The project was executed on turnkey basis, while the existing plant was in operation.
Project Feature:
- Scope:
- Design, engineering, supply of the electromechanical equipment, construction, start-up and commissioning.
- Construction of new systems, including odour control, side stream filtration, chemical storage, and a sludge dewatering conveyor system.
- Major rehabilitation of key plant components like the inlet works, sequencing batch reactor (SBR), and digester.
- Demolition of obsolete structures, ensuring the facility is modernized and prepared for future demands.
- Treatment Process:
- Activated sludge processÂ
- Flocculation
- Lamella clarifier (OPUR-SKâ„¢)
- Disc filtersÂ
- Aerobic sludge digestion
- Impact: The modernised and expanded WWTP ensures environmentally-friendly wastewater treatment for the inhabitants of Doha and its visitors. The installation of space-saving lamella clarifiers as pre-treatment and disc filters as tertiary treatment guarantees a high degree of purification of the treated wastewater, thus protecting the environment.
