CSR is an integral part of our business — encompassing the provision of clean and safe drinking water, wastewater treatment, pollution prevention, and environmental preservation. It has been our corporate philosophy and sustained commitment to give back to society by improving the quality of life for marginalized communities through initiatives rooted in our core expertise.
With this end in view, we implement CSR programmes focused on water augmentation, conservation, use efficiency, reuse, restoration of water bodies, watershed development, and provision of potable water to school children and hospitals in our neighbourhoods. In addition, we nurture the next generation of water professionals through structured skill development and apprenticeship initiatives, empowering youth and supporting long-term employability.
Through these efforts, we actively contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals — fostering economic prosperity, social inclusion, and environmental sustainability.
WABAG constituted a CSR Committee of the Board consisting of 3 Directors with an independent Director. The CSR Committee formulates CSR policy and monitors it from time to time. A formal process of projects approval is in place with each project being vetted by the Sub-Committee and reviewed by the Committee. The CSR program implementation is done either direct or through NGOs as the case may be.

WABAG’s CSR initiatives strongly prioritize water security, especially in water-stressed and over-exploited regions. We invest in comprehensive watershed development and water conservation programs to restore degraded lands, improve groundwater recharge, and build climate-resilient communities. Our model interventions, such as micro-irrigation demonstration farms and localized water harvesting systems, have created catalytic impacts—boosting agricultural productivity, enabling sustainable livelihoods, and driving long-term economic and ecological balance.

Improving sanitation and hygiene is central to WABAG’s social responsibility agenda. Beyond infrastructure, we implement awareness-driven programs that build knowledge, change behaviours, and strengthen community capacity in water and sanitation practices. From promoting handwashing and menstrual hygiene to reducing stagnant water and supporting Open Defecation Free (ODF) goals, our participatory interventions foster healthier living environments and empower communities—especially women and children—with dignity and safety.

WABAG believes that empowering youth through skill development is essential for a self-reliant and future-ready India. Each year, we onboard hundreds of young engineering graduates from across the country and nurture them through rigorous, on-the-job training programs tailored to the water sector. These initiatives, aligned with the Government of India’s Apprentices Act, enhance employability while building a skilled workforce for critical infrastructure sectors. By developing human capital and creating livelihood opportunities, WABAG contributes to nation-building and the vision of a Viksit Bharat—a developed, inclusive, and knowledge-driven India.
