The 140 MLD Dinapur STP, dedicated to the nation by our Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has been designed and built by WABAG. The project funded by JICA is the first and the largest sewage treatment project implemented under the “Namami Gange” mission. WABAG is also responsible for operating and maintaining the facility for a period of 10 years.
The treatment plant employs activated sludge process and is powered by green power from sewage (biogas), significantly reducing the carbon footprint apart from reducing the operational cost. This is in line with PM’s vision to power India through green energy and India’s ratification at the UN Climate Change Convention. The plant boasts of 4,000 m3/day balloon type double membrane gas holders, the largest of its kind in India.
Major Highlights of the plant
- Making Varanasi cleaner and healthier through reducing the volume of the sewage flowing from Varanasi into River Ganga by 50%
- Comprehensive model to clean river Ganga – Ensuring clean water and eschewing air pollution
- In line with PM’s vision to power India through green energy and India’s ratification at the UN Climate Change Convention
WABAG is in the process of treating over 90 crore litres of sewage through its eight projects committed to the Clean Ganga mission. Of this, projects to treat over 60 crore litres are already completed and over 30 crore litres are under execution. This substantiates WABAG’s commitment towards the Clean Ganga Mission, the flagship program of Hon’ble Prime Minister.
