WABAG signs one of India’s first “One City One Operator contract” for Sewage Management with UP Government

WABAG signed contracts worth INR 1477 crore to operate, maintain and manage the Sewage treatment and network infrastructure in the cities of Agra and Ghaziabad for a period of 10 years, extendable for an additional period of 5 years under the “One City, One Operator” model.

The contract for Ghaziabad worth INR 1048 crore and Agra worth INR 429 crore was signed in the presence of Shri Ashutosh Tandon, Hon’ble Minister, Department of Urban Development, Uttar Pradesh, Shri Manoj Kumar Singh, Project Director, State Mission for Clean Ganga, Shri Vikas Gothalwal, Managing Director, Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam and Mr Pankaj Sachdeva, CEO WABAG India Cluster.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. Rajneesh Chopra, Global Head, Business Development, WABAG said “The one city, one operator model marks a paradigm shift in India’s sewage management as a one stop solution for sewage management of an entire city. We expect this model to be soon replicated across major urban regions and open up a multi-billion-dollar market in India, given the government’s efforts to improve the waste water treatment scenario. WABAG, which is currently operating more than 65 O&M contracts globally and backed by its skilled workforce, is well poised to execute this contract.”

Adding further, he said “This contract reinforces WABAG’s commitment to partner with Governments and urban local bodies to realize our Hon’ble PM’s vision of Swachh Bharat and is a progressive step to assure accountability as well as continued performance. With our proven reference of managing over 120 sewage treatment and pumping units for a population of 16 Million people in the city of Istanbul, we are confident of making this new initiative in India a success and gaining excellent visibility given the huge market potential.”

WABAG will be responsible to manage sewage treatment infrastructure of over 650 MLD, adhering to national treatment standards, over 3000 km of sewer networks and 46 pumping stations, thus ensuring a cleaner and healthier eco system to the 3 million population of Agra and Ghaziabad. WABAG is proud to play a significant part in the rejuvenation of river Yamuna, as this will ensure treatment of over 80% of the sewage generated in both the cities.
